Summary: Incredible Fretwork!!
Comment: Check this one out. You are in for a treat!! Keith Emerson's intricate keyboard lines played masterfully on a guitar. This kid ROCKS! Also check out Paul on the Neal Morse "Sola Scriptura & Beyond" DVD. He is truly a rising star.

Summary: Pleasantly, Pleasantly, Surprized!
Comment: I'm 56 and fairly picky.

I always wondered what this music would sound like done with a guitar, but when I heard this guitarist compared to Satriani and Vai. I held off. I tire of that kind of guitar playing real fast. But this guitar player and bass player ARE "Very Musical" This is real music. I like some of this better than ELP. It's more understandable to me anyways. I happen to like the sound. I'm not really an Ibanez/Demarzio type guy. Vai and those guys are good players but just because this guy taps I wouldn't put them in the same catagorie. Paul's tapping is not a hokey crescendo thang but applied as the music calls for it. This guy I can listen too. I buy prog and jazz guitar DVD mostly.

I don't compare these guys to ELP. There is no point. This is a different format doing some excellently written music. This interpretation is great. These guys will stand up in any arena. Paul's sound is classic mixed with modern technique. That makes him unigue folks. He doesn't use a bunch of effects, in fact barely none at all. These guys are NOT trying to emulate ELP. This is music. It's not Palmer making dough.

These guys also smile and arn't afraid of the audience. This is a DVD after all. Some people can give you the impression they would just as soon you weren't there.

Summary: Horrible sound
Comment: How anyone can release a recording with audio that is anything less than what can be achieved with today's technology is shameful.

Sounds like it was recorded under water.

Summary: Carl Palmer disappoints
Comment: This DVD caught my attention as I have listened to ELP since the beginning and have purchased Live At The Royal Albert Hall and the Montrouex DVDs, however I have been disappointed by the sound quality of both ie vocals to soft and Carls drums tinny. This is exactly the same !!! Only stereo is available and the recording of his drums is pathetic. I am able to adjust levels etc on my home theatre system - Mission speakers etc , but nothing saves this poor effort. As for the guitarist - extremely irratating. I far prefer Greg Lakes DVD - At least it is well recorded and features a decent band. Carl deserves better than this second rate effort.

Summary: The Bare Necessities
Comment: Pare down Emerson Lake & Palmer to power chord metal, no keyboards, no romantic vocals. Carl Palmer Band presents the essence of ELP melodies, intricate and heavy. If you like Mr. Palmer's mastery of skin and sticks, you need to rent this DVD and copy it. If you want to support the music industry by all means buy this selection from the ELP website. If you are on a low budget, buy from Amazon. I would not recommend shoplifting or supporting the Chinese blackmarket, though those always are illegal options. But I digress. Carl beats the living dogmeat out of his drums on this DVD. If you like precision violence, or shock and awe, you will like The Carl Palmer Band. There is no pretentiousness to the laddies playing Emo and Lake riffs on stellar stringed gear; it is a refreshingly new sound for melodies that will survive rock history. Paul Bielatowicz and Dave Marks would deserve great applause if it weren't rewarding enough just to lay down an album with Mr. Palmersan. Seems through his workshops and drum clinics, Palmer has developed along Lennonesque lines to develop young talent. Thank God, there is so little of it in this age of overproduced garbge. Nice to hear great gear used with simple precision. Do it again CP.
